According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism in India, in order to create Swachhta Awareness amongst the tourists, students and stakeholders across the country, it has identified 180 tourist sites for organising Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) activities under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2019-20.
Besides, Swachhta Pakhwada and Swachhta-Hi-Seva activities have also been undertaken by the Tourism Ministry at several locations across the country.
As per Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), in Uttar Pradesh, there are 13 monuments such as Taj Mahal, Agra; Akbar’s Tomb, Sikandra, Agra; Rani Jhansi’s Palace, Jhansi etc, have been identified as Adarsh monuments. The idea behind identifying these monuments was providing tourist facilities such as drinking water, toilet, interpretation centre, wi-fi, illumination, ramps, pathways, publication sale counter etc.
