Meet Michaela Connor,
Regional People & Culture Leaders for Discova, living in Phuket.
BACKGROUND:
She grew up in Sweden and always dreamt of traveling the world. After graduating she left Sweden and hasn’t looked back since.
Her travels took her to New Zealand in 2016 where she started working for the industry that was aligned with her passion; the Travel industry. Little did she know that her career in New Zealand would last 12 years for the same company, in various roles. She found her purpose in a support role where she could best help people grow, challenge themselves and learn.
In 2018 her and her husband made the decision to move to Laos with their two young daughters. Listen to the interview to find out what got them to this decision and challenges along the way!
Today, she is one of the Regional People & Culture Leaders for Discova, a global DMC, and lives in Phuket.
SUMMARY
During her travels she met many people who inspired her with her their stories, women and men, young and old. She learnt so much about others and herself on the journey around the world who has helped shape who she is today.
She speaks about the juggle of parenthood and career and what happened that day in 2018 when she decided she needed a career break and how this was the point of turnaround that had a huge impact in her life.
You might recognize yourself in her story of putting pressure on yourself, juggling different “titles”, high expectations and perhaps at times feeling quite lost.
From her own experience and hearing amazing, inspirational stories from other women in the Travel Industry she thought there must be a bigger platform for these stories to be shared that can help empower and inspire others. And this is from where the idea of IWTA (Inspirational Women in Travel) was created and thanks to Gary Marshall, who provides the platform and media expertise for these stories to be shared and heard.
Sit back and relax and listen to her journey.
