Singapore Airlines Adds A380 Flights To Sydney And Melbourne

Singapore Airlines Adds A380 Flights To Sydney And Melbourne

- November 25, 2022

Singapore Airlines’ flagship Airbus A380 is returning to Melbourne, and the airline is increasing the number of flights to Sydney using the superjumbo.

This change will provide a notable improvement to the comfort of the plane’s front-row passengers. Particularly for passengers flying First Class from Melbourne.  The route is now serviced by the airline’s Boeing 777 planes, which have the airline’s regular First Class cabin. The switch to the A380 will include the airline’s signature Suites cabin.

Another Airbus A380 service to Sydney replaces an Airbus A350 flight. Three of the airline’s four daily flights from Australia’s main airport now feature the airline’s most premium cabins, with a daily Boeing 777 continuing to provide First Class.

The double daily service of Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A380s to Sydney begins on 17 May 2023. SQ221 from Singapore and SQ232 from Sydney, both of which are now served by an Airbus A350.

This is in addition to the airline’s existing SQ231 and SQ2222 flights on the Airbus A380 between Singapore and Sydney.

Instead, Melbourne’s superjumbo dominance is seasonal. The A380 will fly on SQ237 from Singapore and SQ228 from the Victorian capital between 16 May and 28 October 2023.

Singapore Airlines’ Southwest Pacific, Regional Vice President Louis Arul, said that “travel demand remains solid for 2023, particularly during the Northern Summer. We anticipate that the increase in tourism from easing border restrictions in Southeast Asia and some parts of East Asia will last through the peak travel season in the Northern Hemisphere summer.

“In May of 2023, the network will undergo a larger capacity shift, which will include the deployment of two A380 aircraft to Melbourne and Sydney”, he added.

In a continuing effort to recover its pre-pandemic capacity in East and Southeast Asia, Singapore Airlines would increase services to destinations across the region. This will help meet the high travel demand in these cities during the peak Northern Summer months (26 March to 29 October 2023).

The airline will expand its services to include Osaka, Seoul, and Taipei and resume service to Busan.

Its pre-pandemic network will be restored in several East and Southeast Asian cities by March 2024. Cities like Bangkok, Thailand; Busan, South Korea; Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Osaka, Japan; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Siem Reap, Cambodia; and Taipei, Taiwan; are just a few examples.
