The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents Wellbeing, a pioneering program of physical and emotional wellbeing activities in the museum sector at the international level. This initiative invites visitors to discover slow art through activities that connect works of art with mindfulness techniques, mindful observation, yoga and meditation. The program is built on the premise that art improves people’s physical and emotional wellbeing and enhances their connection to themselves and with others.
Coinciding with the celebration of International Museum Day, whose theme this year is “Museums, Sustainability, and Wellbeing”, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has presented Wellbeing, an ambitious program of physical and emotional wellbeing activities that is designed for its visitors and the general public and is pioneering in the museum world.
The program is built on the premise that art improves people’s physical and emotional wellbeing, and that visiting museums encourages calmness and reduces stress. The program’s goals are therefore to nurture calmness through a slower pace; to foster mindful and attentive visits to exhibitions; and to offer activities that allow visitors to increase their capacity for observation, balance and creativity.
The Museum’s new Wellbeing program invites visitors to reconnect with their senses and explore their emotions through art. It includes initiatives that help develop attentiveness and concentration, the acquisition of new skills, and reduce feelings of urgency, isolation and loneliness while fostering curiosity, personal connection, and openness.
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has developed an extensive program of innovative proposals such as the creation of calm spaces inside the Museum, holistic yoga workshops for adults and families, mindful tours, talks given by experts in the field and online activities.
