MACAU, June 29, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Melco Resorts & Entertainment, a developer and operator of integrated resort facilities in Asia and Europe, won praise today for a new policy to source only cage-free eggs for all its operations in Macau and globally.

Melco’s sustainability report highlights that since March 2022, all eggs served at City of Dreams Manila are from cage-free sources. The company aims to extend this commitment to all its F&B outlets in Macau and achieve 100% cage-free egg sourcing across its portfolio by 2025.

“Melco recognizes sustainability as being fundamental to our business and responsibility to our communities. The new cage-free egg policy is just one of the steps we are taking towards more sustainable and responsible practices,” added Ms. Augusta Vargas-Prada, Vice President, Supply Chain at Melco.

“Melco’s commitment to transitioning to cage-free eggs sets an example for other hospitality groups in Macau to follow, and we are confident that more will follow in the near future,” said Anita Suen, Sustainability Program Manager at international NGO Lever Foundation, which worked with Melco on its commitment.

The Macau-based Society of Food and Environment Health (Macao), a member of China Animal Health & Food Safety Alliance (CAFA), also lauded the move. “We believe that this initiative, which supports the One Health approach from the World Health Organization, will encourage other regional integrated resorts to prioritize sustainable practices that positively impact the environment, as well as the health and well-being of both humans and animals,” the organization stated.

Melco’s rapid transition to cage-free eggs has facilitated availability in Macau, as local egg distributors have expanded their supply to meet the growing demand. Yan Lo, General Manager of Agencia Commercial Heng Long, a leading egg distributor in Macau that facilitated Melco’s transition to cage-free eggs, said it expects this to become a mainstream trend in the near future.

Melco joins a growing number of companies in the hospitality sector that have pledged to source only cage-free eggs for their operations, including Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Radisson, Accor and others.
