As more and more artists and artisans emerge on the beautiful islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, the first-ever event to bring the various creative communities together will be celebrated at the inaugural TEMBO Art & Style, which takes place from 17 – 20 August at TEMBO Beach Club & Resort in Bangrak.
The four-day event will showcase a diverse and thrilling array of artistic expressions such as painting, sculpture, photography, fashion and more through a packed programme of colourful events.
All participants will donate 10% of sales to Save Elephant Foundation as part of the beach club’s “TEMBO Cares” CSR initiative. (For more info visit saveelephant.org)
Highlights of the show will be the art exhibition, a two-day “art market” for artists and artisans, a series of creative art-related workshops, a TRASHion show (Junk Kouture) and, on the final day, “The Fabulous TEMBO Fashion Show” featuring gorgeous kimonos from local companies Sisters of Siam, stylish yoga and leisurewear from Brazil’s Gypsy Amazon, and colourful resort wear by in house boutique, TEMBO Style.
This “first of its kind” event kicks off on Thursday 17th August with a welcome party and introduction to the artists. During the following days, guests can wander around the resort enjoying the many art pieces on display, live sand sculpting and other live art performances, dance and musical performances, 3-D printing, and much, much more (attached full list of confirmed events and participants).
Saturday 19th August will see “Junk Kouture”, a TRASHion event which aims to champion change in the local community and beyond by inviting participants to harness their creativity using nothing but trash to create outlandish and fantastical outfits. The winning entry will receive a prize of THB10,000, kindly donated by Thai Hotels Association.
The final day of the event, models of all ages and sizes will strut their stuff at “The Fabulous TEMBO Fashion Show” to acknowledge the power and beauty of women everywhere. Brands such as Sisters of Siam, Gypsy Amazon, and the resort’s own TEMBO Style will bring island chic to the final day of the event.
Commenting on the upcoming event, organizer and TEMBO Co-Founder, Susan Field, says: “Samui is totally ready for an event like this. There are so many wonderful artists and designers on our islands who deserve to have their work appreciated by the general public.”
Field, who handled PR for the launch of several significant art events in Hong Kong, is passionate about having art as part of the resort’s “DNA”.
“We like to share our appreciation of the arts, in whatever form, with our guests. Our glorious walkway and restaurant offer the perfect backdrop for a celebration of art. At the same time, through our TEMBO Cares initiative, we are able to support one of our favourite causes, Save Elephant Foundation which does so much good work to support Asia’s captive elephants.”
