From Beach Bliss to Tassie trails, Australia’s first independent low-cost carrier, Bonza, is connecting the Sunshine Coast and Launceston for the first time, with flights beginning on the 29th of March 2024.
“We are delighted to connect the Sunny Coast and Launnie with direct low-cost air travel, allowing customers to save time and money by avoiding lengthy road trips or metro city transfers and instead be able to maximise their holiday,” said Tim Jordan, the chief executive officer of Bonza.
The new service will operate twice a week on Mondays and Fridays, with flights starting at $89 per person (one way), as the low-cost carrier continues its quest to connect more towns in regional Australia than ever before.
It is the low-cost airline’s 12th route from its home base at Sunshine Coast Airport and its second route from Launceston Airport, bringing significant tourism potential to both communities.
“Launceston locals can ditch their Tassie tuxedos and explore more than 100km of sandy beaches while Sunny Coast travellers can lace up their hiking boots for an overland adventure across Tasmania as both destinations offer contrasting holiday options,” Jordan added.
“The continued community support from the Sunshine Coast and Launceston humbles Our Bonza legends. This service is excellent news for tourists and the local tourism and hospitality industry.”
Sunshine Coast Airport CEO Chris Mills said the new direct service to Launceston will be the first in history between the Sunshine Coast and Tasmania, unlocking incredible opportunities for locals and tourists alike.
“It will open a new market for tourism operators here on the Sunshine Coast, with Tasmanians now having direct access to our pristine beaches, incredible restaurants, and unique experiences.” Launceston is now the 15th destination on offer from Sunshine Coast Airport, placing Tasmania right on the doorstep for locals. Launceston has a rich history and offers culinary delights and breathtaking beauty for tourists to discover.
“Our partnership with Bonza has helped connect the Sunshine Coast to new destinations across Australia, creating more ease, choice, and flexibility. It’s an exciting time for the Airport and our region.”
According to Launceston Airport CEO Shane O’Hare, the new route will be the first direct flight from Tasmania to the Sunshine Coast, connecting two of Australia’s most popular holiday destinations.
“We’re thrilled to see Bonza expanding its Tasmanian footprint and opening new markets for tourists to visit our beautiful part of the world and discover the city of gastronomy! “The Sunshine Coast is a growing hub for small and medium-sized businesses, so this connection will also assist Tasmanian enterprises to thrive by opening up new cooperation opportunities.”
