Peru in South America is always on the must-visit list of all avid travelers. One of the attractions of Peru is the City of Kings, Lima, the capital of the country. Lima is well known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and luscious cuisine. Whether you are a seasoned explorer or leading off on your first international adventure, conscientious preparation will enhance your flying experience to Lima. Essential Documents

To ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience to Lima, Peru, you will need certain essential documents. Here is a list of the documents you will need:

Passport

If you plan to fly to Lima, you will need a valid passport. Make sure that your passport remains valid for at least six months beyond the date on which you plan to depart from Peru.

Visa

Visas may be required for entry into Peru, depending on your nationality. Several countries, including the United States, Canada, the European Union, Australia, and New Zealand, do not require visas to enter Peru for tourism purposes. Before traveling, it is important to check Peru’s visa requirements based on your nationality.

Immigration Form

To enter Lima, you will need to complete the immigration form provided by your airline or available at the airport upon arrival. The Andean Immigration Card (TAM) requires that you provide specific information about your passport, flight details, and the purpose of your visit to Peru. The form should be kept with you as you will be required to present it upon departure from Peru as well.

Proof of Return or Onward Travel

A return ticket to your home country or another destination may be requested by Peruvian authorities to prove your onward travel. This document demonstrates that you intend to leave Peru within the permitted period.

Travel Insurance

While it is not mandatory to purchase travel insurance, it is highly recommended that you do so to cover medical expenses, trip cancellations, and other unforeseen circumstances. Ensure that your travel insurance covers your trip to Lima adequately.

Currency Exchange

Visiting Lima, Peru requires consideration of currency exchange. Peruvian Sol (PEN) is the official currency of the country. You are advised to exchange your currency for Peruvian Soles upon arrival in Lima to avoid unfavorable exchange rates. For the best exchange rates, it is recommended to exchange your currency at an authorized exchange office, bank, or ATM. There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency that can be brought into Peru. Upon arrival, however, amounts exceeding USD 10,000 or its equivalent in other currencies must be declared.

Climate and Clothing

Planning a trip to Lima, Peru requires an understanding of the climate and the selection of appropriate clothing. Throughout the year, Lima experiences a mild desert climate with relatively stable temperatures. There are, however, two distinct seasons:

Dry Season (May to October)
