Qantas officially launched its route to Vanuatu through its inaugural flight from Brisbane to the capital city of Port Vila on 10th September.

Flying at full capacity, QF159 made the three-hour journey to the island destination.

The new route aims to promote tourism between Australia and Vanuatu, strengthening economic ties and providing a boost to the local economy and tourism economy of the broader Pacific region, encouraging ongoing Australian visitation to the island capital.

Adela Issachar Aru, chief executive of the Vanuatu Tourism Office said of the maiden flight: “The launch of Qantas’ inaugural flight from Brisbane to Port Vila marks a significant milestone for Vanuatu’s tourism industry and strengthens our connectivity with Australia.”

Thrice a week from Brisbane

Qantas’ new route offers three direct flights per week from Brisbane.

Also, from 12th December, sister airline Jetstar will fly four flights a week between Sydney and Port Vila.

Between the two airlines, this expansion into Vanuatu enables them to offer over 150,000 new seats per year between Australia and Vanuatu. This makes it and making it easier than ever for Australians to experience the beaches, rich culture, and unique adventures that Vanuatu has to offer.

Qantas Group international CEO Cam Wallace said of this development: “We are thrilled to expand our network with the introduction of direct flights between Brisbane and Port Vila.
