Beyond Green joins 1% for the planet to give back to environmental causes

Beyond Green, a global portfolio of planet Earth’s most sustainable hotels, resorts, and lodges, has joined 1% for the Planet, committing to donate 1% of the brand’s annual sales to support non-profit organisations focused on environmental issues.

Founded to accelerate smart environmental giving and prevent greenwashing, 1% for the Planet’s environmental partners are vetted organisations working toward a wide array of solutions, from climate justice and urban infrastructure to gender equality; indigenous land rights to supply chain sustainability; conservation policy to environmental education, and beyond, with more than 6,500 partners in 111 different countries, every member can find and support the causes that matter most to them. These partners are categorised into four impact areas; Rights to Nature; Conservation and Restoration; Resilient Communities; and Just Economies.

Since its official launch in April 2021, Beyond Green has established an esteemed reputation among travellers and the wider travel community for its holistic approach to sustainable tourism. Travellers are becoming increasingly savvy when it comes to sustainability, demanding more transparency from the companies they support, thus by partnering with 1% for the Planet, guests can further maximise the positive impact of their Beyond Green bookings.

‘Following our launch, we have sought to connect Beyond Green with likeminded brands for considered partnerships that align with our overall purpose. By working with 1% for the Planet, we are excited to further fulfil our commitment to supporting environmental causes,’ says Lindsey Ueberroth, CEO of Preferred Travel Group.

‘Currently, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment and only 5% of that comes from businesses. The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of business members are doing vital work to increase giving and support on-the-ground action. We’re excited to welcome Beyond Green to our global movement,’ says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet.

Driven by an unwavering belief that to travel with purpose is to travel well, Beyond Green represents sustainability leadership in action and impact, with a missionand purpose of transforming the global travel and tourism industry, where sustainability is the rule and not the exception. Centered on three core values – Nature, Culture, and Community – Beyond Green’s global members go beyond being eco-conscious to also embrace fundamental principles such as fair wages, gender equality, and the safeguarding and celebrating of cultural heritage.

By contributing 1% of their annual sales, thousands of 1% for the Planet’s members have raised millions in funding to support environmental partners around the globe, with over $530 million having been certified to date.
