The events also provide a vibrant platform for young designers to connect, collaborate, and showcase their innovative creations.
From now to September 24, Galaxy Macau™ is rolling out the red carpet for local residents and tourists to experience the Macao Design Week 2023 in East Square. This collaboration with the MDA is a grand exhibition of Macau’s design prowess through exhibitions, seminars, tours and workshops. “We are thrilled to see such a vibrant and creative representation of talent at the Galaxy Lantern Art Festival. The launch of Macau Design Week 2023 offers a unique platform to celebrate and showcase the innovative design capabilities within Asia,” James Yang, Senior Vice President, Marketing Services of Galaxy Entertainment Group, said. “Through this collaboration, Galaxy Macau reaffirms our commitment to enriching arts and cultural landscape, and to further enhancing Macau as a world-class travel and entertainment destination”.
Designers participating in the Macao Design Week demonstrated both eagerness and enthusiasm. Among them were Yah-leng Yu, the Founding Creative Director of Foreign Policy Design Group; Lam Ieong Kun and Dan Ferreira, the Co-founders of Indego Design; and Yu Zi Ji from Y. Studio. The exhibition’s highlights include the “N30° New Designers Exhibition”, the “Tokyo Illustrators Society – Flower Illustration Exhibition”, and the “Macao Product Design Association – Sustainable Design Exhibition”. Under the theme “Keywords of the City”, these events championed the importance of exploring the attractiveness of Macau, supporting young designers and promoting sustainable design.
In partnership with MDA, Galaxy Macau invited art students from the Greater Bay Area and local universities and designers to participate in the lantern design competition. The design theme, “Traditional cultural elements presented in innovative & artistic ways,” presented awards including Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, Most Creative Award, and Honorable Mention. The eight winning lanterns will be displayed at the Galaxy Macau until October 31.
Harnessing advanced light projection technology, the Galaxy Lantern Art Festival showcased a harmonious display of traditional Chinese lantern designs. An LED wall displayed a continuous series of digital artworks, bringing to life in a stunning, luminous spectacle, the unique interpretation of Chinese culture by four renowned designers from mainland China, Macau and Singapore, also MDA designers.
Alongside the Lantern Design Competition and Macao Design Week 2023, Galaxy Macau will also introduce the First-in-Macau Supermoon from September 25 to October 8. Under the towering six-meter giant moon at the Lawn, guests can unwind, marvel at the moon’s beauty with loved ones, and enjoy live performances and parades from 6pm–11pm on September 29 and 30.
