Forbidden City to digitalize entire collection
The Forbidden City in Beijing will digitalise its entire collection and make the images available to the public. Officially known as the Palace Museum, the historic attraction has more than 1.8 billion antiques and relics, but so far only 400,000 have been photographed. The museum now plans to create a record of every item and display the images online.
New sub to explore the depths of the Maldives
A company is launching the first-ever three-man deep water submarine for visitors to the Maldives. DeepFlight Adventures’ new sub, DeepFlight Super Falcon 3S, will allow visitors to access the underwater world. Passengers will be seated on individual cockpits with 360-degree views through acrylic canopies and video cameras to record the experience.
Tokyo launches tourism VR channel
The Tokyo government has launched a new virtual reality movie channel offering 360-degree views of the city, and the Tohoku, Chugoku and Shikoku regions. Available on YouTube or Youku, the VR channel has been launched alongside a new website designed to provide tourist information on festivals, shops, food and sightseeing in various parts of Japan.
Swissôtel installs air purifiers in Vitality Rooms
Swissôtel has selected the IQAir CleanZone air purification system for the Vitality Rooms at its hotel in Zurich. The system is designed to remove diesel soot, allergens, viruses and other airborne pollutants, “providing clean, medical-grade air”. Swissôtel’s Vitality Room concept collaborates with various partners to create a healthy in-room environment.
