In preparation for her December debut in Texas, the Carnival Jubilee completed a navigation of the river Ems in north-west Germany, breaking records as the first Carnival Cruise Line ship to do so. Carnival Jubilee, the first Carnival ship ever constructed by Meyer Werft, has been successfully moved from the German shipyard of Papenburg to the Dutch port of Eemshaven in preparation for its upcoming sea trials.
Leaving Papenburg with the assistance of two tugboats for manoeuvrability, a skilled crew aboard the Carnival Jubilee sailed the Ems in reverse towards the North Sea to complete the transfer. The Pilot Brotherhood of Emden, a group of Ems River pilots, helped carry out the move. The pilots are highly skilled and prepared for the crossing by using state-of-the-art technology, including a realistic simulation of the river, to prepare for the passage.
Before arriving at Eemshaven, the ship had to be manoeuvred through a series of small canals and under several bridges in preparation for the start of the first round of sea testing. The sea trials for the Carnival Jubilee will be directed and staffed by a complete team of officers, technicians, and engineers who will put the ship through her paces by rigorously testing its technical, mechanical, and navigational systems.
Meanwhile, shipbuilders are busy installing all the amenities that passengers on the Carnival Jubilee will enjoy during her inaugural voyages out of Galveston. Exclusive new concepts in sea-themed areas of the ship will delight guests with delicious food and beverage options, such as the Dr. Inks, Ph.D. Bar, as technology and other design elements, transport them from a sunny pier-like “boardwalk” to an adventurous ocean-floor promenade.
Carnival Jubilee, the third ship in the fleet to use a Liquefied Natural Gas propulsion system, also features other unique innovations, such as the top-deck rollercoaster BOLT: The Ultimate Seacoaster.
The first commercial cruise on the Carnival Jubilee will sail from Galveston on 23 December. The ship will sail weeklong cruises to popular Caribbean destinations, including Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico, and Mahogany Bay (Roatan).
