Finally, the two states Punjab and Haryana have agreed to name Chandigarh international airport after Bhagat Singh. Haryana recently voted to name the Chandigarh International Airport after Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. A formal announcement in this direction was made following an official meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala.Mann then made the announcement in a tweet.
For more than 10 years, Punjab wanted to name the Airport Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali, but Haryana was opposed to the term Mohali. Additionally, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha had also adopted resolutions that Named the Airport Shaheed-EAzam.
Sardar Bhagat Singh International Airport Mohali. The Haryana Vidhan Sabha had passed an ordinance to name the Airport however, with the inclusion of the term Chandigarh. Punjab had given 307 acres of land in Mohali for the airport. The airport project is a joint venture of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the governments of Punjab and Haryana. Punjab and Haryana have 24.5 per cent share each while the AAI has 51 per cent share.
