Hoppa, the airport transfer company, has updated its annual report showcasing the cheapest and most expensive destinations across the world, with some surprising results.

Zurich is the most expensive destination for tourists

The research reveals the priciest and lowest costs for accommodation, meals, drinks and taxi fares, as well as sightseeing bus tours and top attractions.

The research, based on data collected from a total of 84 worldwide destinations, all of which are covered by hoppa, revealed Zurich to be the most expensive destination to visit overall at £170.43, for a total average price of hotel, food, drink and taxi journey per person per night. At the other end of the scale is Sofia, which sits at the very bottom of the list with an average of only £38.21. London comes 12th in the ranking, costing an average of £121.41, making it a slightly cheaper destination than Dublin but more expensive than Dubai.

Looking further into these results to determine the cost of dining out, the report uncovered Makkah to be the cheapest, with Zurich topping the list once again with an average price of £79.63. While it’s a surprise to find out that one of the cheapest pints can be found in Ibiza at as little as 80p, Las Vegas sits 7th with the average pint priced at £5.14.

When it comes to eating and drinking on the go, hoppa found that a burger from Venice costs £12.81 (almost double the price compared to New York), but Manila is cheapest with an average price of £1.97. For coffee lovers, it may be interesting to know that the costliest caffeine is found in Copenhagen with an average price of £5.10, and the second cheapest is in Rome when you can enjoy a real Italian coffee for as little as £1.15.

A new addition for 2017 report, is the price of cocktails. The report reveals a huge price range when it comes to cocktails, starting at £2.96 in Cuba and rocketing to £18.06 in Bahrain.

With a sightseeing bus tour being top of the itinerary for many holiday makers, this has also been added to the report. Findings show that you should jump aboard in Kiev which will cost only £7.50, but be prepared to part with £54.50 if visiting Dubai.

The final addition to this year’s ‘Cheapest vs Expensive’ report is the world’s top attractions.  A trip to the Grand Palace in Bangkok will only cost £11.38, whereas visiting Universal Studios (a must when holidaying in Florida) will cost £127 for a day pass.
