Named as one of the best places to visit in 2024 by European Best Destinations and the New York Times, Geneva offers a range of activities to keep solo travellers entertained. The city is also incredibly safe, with Switzerland ranking in the top 10 safest countries in the world in Gallup’s 2023 Global Law & Order Index, promising a worry-free break for solo travellers.

As the world’s smallest metropolis, Geneva is easily walkable, and those who are keen to delve deep into Geneva’s history can embark a private guided tour of the Old Town, uncovering the city’s hidden gems with the help of a knowledgeable guide. For travellers who prefer to explore the history of a city through its museums, the International Museum of the Reformation presents a history of the Protestant Reformation, which can be traced back to 16th century Geneva, while the Patek Philippe Museum gives an insight into Geneva’s rich watchmaking history, immersing visitors in the iconic industry.

When it comes to relaxation, the Turkish baths and hammams at Bains des Pâquis offer the ultimate place to unwind while taking in views of the iconic Lac Leman. Those who prefer an action-packed solo break should head to Genève-Plage, which offers over 30 activities to enjoy, from paddleboarding to aquazumba, while the destination’s lively beach bar is the perfect spot to meet fellow travellers looking to explore the wonders of the city. Elsewhere, the riverside platforms by the Rhône offer the perfect spot for a solo picnic with a book, while keen swimmers can take a dip in the river at the Pointe de la Jonction where the rivers Rhône and Arve converge to create a mesmerising two-tone effect in the ultimate natural spectacle.

Solo travellers looking for a foodie break will delight in the city’s recently launched Geneva Food Guide, offering a trusted companion for visitors looking to explore the culinary scene of the third most culinarily diverse city in the world. Produced in collaboration with international gastronomic expert Sébastien Ripari, the guide showcases 60 recommended establishments, with options for every budget and taste. Those who prefer a more lowkey spot should head to Bao Canteen for a delicious culinary journey through the streets of Taipei, while those who want to explore Swiss delicacies should head to Les Armures to enjoy a fondue for one with a refreshing glass of Swiss Chasselas.

Guests visiting the city can also take advantage of the Geneva City Pass, which can be purchased for either 24, 48 or 72 hours, and grants access to over 60 of the city’s activities on a free-of-charge or discounted basis. The pass also allows free access to the city’s public transport network, which ensures easy, safe travel across the city, ensuring the ultimate solo break experience.
