Dog-friendly hotels

Comfy rooms, lots of sunshine and delicious treats guarantee an unforgettable time for both you and your four-legged best friend. To honour them on International Dog Day (26 August), we’ve listed down some of the best dog-friendly hotels where you can stay and play.

The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel: Dana Point

At The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel, guests are welcome to stay at the hotel with their pet pups. From 15 August – 15 December, the hotel will host a monthly ‘Yappy Hour’ where pooches can lap up bacon, chicken or beef flavoured water, whilst their human companions relax with a refreshing cocktail. All proceeds from Yappy Hour go to The Veterans Initiative of Canine Companions for Independence.

Kimpton Solamar: San Diego

Located in the city’s trendy Gaslamp Quarter, the Kimpton Solamar is a boutique property, with stylish rooms, delicious dining options and a rooftop swimming pool. Dogs of all sizes are welcome to stay at the hotel at no extra charge and will be treated like a VIP, with treats and plush mats.

They’re also welcome to join in the nightly happy hour in the hotel’s lobby living room, where there’ll be plenty of opportunity for pooch networking. Balboa Park is only a short tram ride away and the perfect opportunity for long walks amongst museums, gardens and restaurants.

Pasea Hotel & Spa: Huntington Beach

Paséa Hotel & Spa is located on the Pacific Coast Highway just steps from Pacific City, the area’s newest retail and dining hub. The property features 250 guestrooms, a Balinese-inspired spa, dedicated Beach Butler service and surfboard storage.

The newest addition to the hotel is PAW-SEA, a 1,100 square ft. interactive pup play park in addition to its repertoire of luxe pet-friendly hotel amenities. Not to be missed is PupChella on 11 August, featuring brunch, fashion show, live music and dog-friendly photo booth.

The National Hotel: Yosemite Tuolumne County

Celebrating 40 years of innkeeping and fine dining, The National Hotel is a historic California Gold Rush era listed property located in the charming Jamestown. The old west hotel is happy to accommodate pets for USD 25 per night and dog-friendly activities are in abundance from hikes in table Mountain with rewarding views of New Melones Lake to train rides at Railttown 1897 State Historic Park rolling through the foothills of the Gold Rush-era and old western movie nostalgia.

The London: West Hollywood

Located in the heart of West Hollywood, a city that has more dogs than children, The London offers a tranquil oasis that epitomises modern luxury. Two adorable bulldogs – Winston and Churchill – call the hotel their home and guests are welcome to play with them throughout their stay. The hotel also offers a bespoke ‘Winston Menu’ serving tasty meat treats for guests’ pooches.

Kimpton Canary Hotel: Santa Barbara

Kimpton Canary Hotel, in the heart of downtown, is one of the city’s best dog-friendly hotels. With no size restrictions or extra charges, the hotel can upgrade a pup’s stay and connect owners with local pet services and vets.

Canary Santa Barbara’s director of pet relations, Wiley, can often be spotted sitting — or standing — behind the front desk and helping check guests in upon arrival. Santa Barbara is equally as pet-friendly, with walking trails, beach boardwalks and parks perfect for exploring together.

The Sandman: Sonoma County

The Sandman is a throw-back motor lodge inspired by Spanish Mission Revival buildings. With 135 newly-renovated rooms, a sparkling pool with hot tub, and a poolside bar and lounge, every member of the family is welcome, including dogs.

While in Sonoma County, guests and pets can enjoy easy access to a plethora of activities – meander together among towering redwoods, run along the seashore, visit pet-friendly wine-tasting rooms, enjoy al fresco dining and play at plenty of dog parks.

Coachman Hotel: South Lake Tahoe

The Coachman Hotel offers smartly designed rooms combined with purposeful design and an approachable, friendly atmosphere. The newly-renovated hotel features 42 rooms, including unique rooms such as the Honeymoon room, complete with heart-shaped soaking tub.

Pets are allowed in designated rooms with a one-time pet fee.

Edelweiss Lodge: Mammoth Lakes

It doesn’t get any more pet-tastic than the rustic Edelweiss Lodge. Welcoming pets and their people since 1957 to its knotty-pine cabins and suites, the Edelweiss Lodge definitely knows how to make its four-legged guests feel at home. Dogs can stay for just USD 20 a day, and they are treated with a welcome basket, including sheets to cover the furniture, waste baggies, bowls and treats.

Best Western Danville Sycamore Inn: Tri-Valley

Of the 26 hotels in the Tri-Valley, a whopping 22 are pet-friendly – with the Best Western Danville Sycamore Inn a standout choice for four-legged friends. Offering its furry guest’s biscuits and a bowl of water on arrival, the hotel is close to several dog parks and trails. Be sure to visit some of the pet-friendly wineries during “yappy hour”.

Located downtown, guests are within close proximity to the famous Glenwood Hot Springs as well as the breath-taking White River National Forest. There’s no better way to soak up the beauty of Colorado than with a four-legged friend, before retreating to the open log fire for snuggles.

Viceroy Snowmass: Aspen

Aspen is a luxurious year-round destination, offering skiing in the winter and mountain adventure during the warmer months. At Viceroy Snowmass, four-legged guests are greeted upon arrival with a bag containing a Viceroy lead and bandana, doggy bags and an ‘I Luv Liver’ treat. A top-up of treats can be offered through room service and a dog bed, food and water bowls are also found within the guest’s rooms as standard.
