The Edinburgh Marina development project received a shot in the arm this week when it was announced that, after months of discussion, Edinburgh Marina Holdings is close to signing a deal with a “major international hotel partner” for the Edinburgh Marina Spa & Conference Hotel.
The Edinburgh Marina Spa & Conference Hotel, which looks over the marina will feature 187 rooms, 21 suites and a 1,000 sqft presidential suite. Guests will be able to make use of a range of facilities such as 20,000 sqft spa and fitness centre, and a 10,000 sqft meetings and conference centre. That’s not to mention the site’s banqueting centre and numerous bars and restaurants.
“I hope to confirm the identity of the hotelier in the very near future”
The 340-berth marina, set to be Scotland’s first ever purpose built moorings, is a key factor in a wider £500 million community regeneration project that will include 1,500 new houses as well as create new jobs for the local population.
Hotel asset management company, Michels & Taylor, is acting as advisor to the developer Kevin Fawcett, who said of the announcement: “I am delighted that there has been so much interest from leading international hoteliers in the new Edinburgh Marina Hotel. I hope to be in a position to confirm the identity of the hotelier in the very near future.”
“A huge boost to the local community and for Scotland’s tourism industry”
The developer’s funding adviser for the Edinburgh Marina Development has now been confirmed as BFIN (Brookfield Financial), a global investment bank focused on major real estate and infrastructure
Hugh Taylor OBE of Michels & Taylor added: “This is all great news for Edinburgh and a huge boost to the local community and for Scotland’s tourism industry. The interested hotel brands are all highly regarded in the industry and I believe that the successful candidate will be a perfect fit for this luxury waterfront development.”
