Renovated Heritage Le Château in Mauritius opens presidential suite

After an extensive renovation of the 19th century mansion, Heritage Resorts has revealed the all-new Heritage Le Château in Mauritius.

Already operating as a fine dining restaurant, the property is located on the Heritage Bel Ombre domain adjacent to Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort in the south of Mauritius.

Heritage Le Château is now offering a signature menu from Michelin-starred Chef David Toutain and overnight stays in its new Presidential Suite, the only bedroom in the château, featuring a four-poster canopy bed, long ivory draped curtains, paintings that revive scenes from yesteryear and antiques that add to the old-world charm.

Stay overnight in the Presidential Suite and become ‘lord and lady of the manor’

Chef David Toutain, a celebrated Michelin-starred chef was invited to design a summer menu to reflect the refined surroundings and cultural heritage of the restored Heritage Le Château.

“In creating his signature menu, Toutain immersed himself in the local culture”

In creating his signature menu, Toutain immersed himself in the local culture, speaking to Mauritians, learning about their heritage, sampling produce and tasting authentic dishes. The results speak for themselves – with each plate offering texture, flavour and Mauritian localism combined with contemporary innovation.

Toutain, who grew up on a farm in Normandy is in the habit of honouring the produce-based tradition of his region

The Anglo-Indian colonial style mansion dates back to 1765 when it presided over one of the oldest sugar plantation estates in south Mauritius.

Natural light floods through the living areas and a veranda around the property allows guests to sit and admire the views of the private reserve, including a landscaped French-style garden, beyond which is Heritage Golf Course.

The living areas offer a snapshot through time through attention to detail with small colonial touches. Decorated with an eclectic array of vintage furniture, the Chesterfield sofas to antique china rosewood screens, rattan chairs complement the rich wooden panels and elegant Venetian chandeliers.

The château is surrounded by hills and a national park, boasting 1,300 hectares of nature

To ensure the property stayed true to its historical routes, the Heritage Resort team collaborated with architect Florent Richard from Perrot & Richards Architects, an expert in architectural heritage restoration and preservation.

The result is an interior inspired by the Victorian era that conserves the heritage of the estate with a British colonial touch.
