Kristin Mariano

- September 4, 2023

With an ever-increasing number of stylish, luxurious and quirky hotels popping up all over Australia, there has never been a better time to plan a visit Down Under. Finding something for every traveller and every budget, Marriott’s portfolio of exquisite hotels has expanded across the country this year with a selection of fabulous new openings from Sydney to Melbourne. Please see below some of the picks of the crop from the range of Marriott brand hotels in Australia.

Where: W Melbourne

Best for: Cool aesthetics and quirky twists

Japanese-style toilets in every bedroom, an in-house hotel DJ and an underground cocktail bar: what more could you want from your stay? Introducing W Melbourne, nestled in the beating heart of the Melbourne Central Business District on the iconic Flinders Lane. W  Melbourne’s own vibrant restaurants and bars electrify the guest experience: with Warabi offering kappo omakase dining, Lollo combining locally sourced, modern Australian and multicultural dishes and subterranean cocktail bar Curious creating cocktails that rival the city’s best speakeasies. Taking the weather in its stride, W Melbourne offers seasonal twists; in winter months, guests can warm back up to the tune of vinyl records and winter-exclusive whiskey cocktails, against the backdrop of ever-changing mixes by the hotel’s inhouse Music Curator, DJ Minx. On top of this, guests can enjoy the hotel’s FIT gym, located on floor 14, and 24-hour indoor swimming pool whose stylish design oozes chic.

Prices start at £180 per night for a double room in October.

Where: The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne

Best for: Breathtaking views from Australia’s tallest hotel

Opened in March this year, The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne offers legendary guest service to visitors to Australia’s arts and epicurean capital. A beacon of Melbourne’s rich culture, history and future, the hotel takes centre stage at 270m high, commanding the city’s skyline and earning the title of Australia’s tallest hotel. Guests are welcomed via an express elevator, direct to the Sky Lobby on Level 80 of the hotel which affords uninterrupted panoramic views of Melbourne city and surrounds. Atria, the hotel’s much-praised high-end restaurant on the 80th floor, takes inspiration from traditional Indigenous seasons, incorporating native ingredients; dishes include Wallaby in Broth and hand-picked Tasmanian Crab with coral custard, or crudo-style fish using only what is locally available, such as duckfish. The Ritz-Carlton Spa presents a holistic wellness experience, with six treatment rooms, spa, sauna, gym, yoga area and a tranquil infinity pool and pool deck, of course accompanied by those sensational views across the city.

Prices start at £247 per night for a double room in October.

Where: The Ritz-Carlton, Perth

Best for: Wine enthusiasts

In keeping with Australia’s label as one of the world leading wine destinations, The Ritz-Carlton, Perth spares nothing when it comes to fulfilling discerning the expectations of discerning guests. Camila Luzzi, Sommelier at The Ritz-Carlton, Perth’s signature Hearth Restaurant & Lounge has developed the award-winning hotel wine list with a focus on local, sustainable and biodynamic wines featuring over 30 Western Australian wines by the glass and 180 Western Australian wines by the bottle. Widely regarded as one of Perth’s best restaurants among locals, Hearth Restaurant is noted for its innovative wine pairings including Nebbiolo to accompany fish, orange wine to go with pork, and a chilled shiraz for octopus. The Ritz-Carlton, Perth is located on Perth’s Elizabeth Quay waterfront, affording guests uninterrupted views; the hotel’s river-view infinity pool and luxury spa featuring bespoke treatments are other features that make for a truly relaxing stay.

Prices start at £249 per night for a double room in October.

Where: W Sydney (opens 12th October)

Best for: Vibrant nightlife and a late night dessert bar

As one of Australia’s most highly-anticipated openings this year, W Sydney will mark the third W hotel in Australia, offering travellers to Sydney all the trimmings of the W experience. Steps away from the city, Chinatown and Barangaroo, W Sydney is set to become a vibrant new dining destination, taking guests and visitors on a journey across three storeys dedicated to creating cocktail and culinary adventures. Rising over Darling Harbour, W Sydney will showcase striking design and interiors. W Sydney will feature a two-storey rooftop bar, Level 29 WET® Deck with a heated infinity pool overlooking Darling Harbour, AWAY® Spa, FIT gym, restaurant and bar. At the centre of the culinary journey is BTWN, the hotel’s unique new restaurant and cocktail bar situated ‘between’ the city’s sweeping expressways. In the main dining space, the à la carte menu is designed with a hyper-focus on local produce and dishes to share ‘between’ friends. In the evening, one of BTWN’s star attractions will be its late-night dessert bar, 2AM: dessertbar by Janice Wong, the only one of its kind in Australia. A must-visit for dessert lovers everywhere.
