Rising passenger traffic on routes to and from India boosted Singapore’s Changi Airport last month.

The hub handled a total of 5.0 million passengers in May 2017, up 4.6% compared to the same period last year. But traffic between Singapore and India jumped 21% year-on-year growth, making it the fastest-growing of Changi’s top 10 markets. Traffic growth exceeded 20% on routes to and from Mumbai and Chennai, and overall growth on South Asian routes was 17%.

Another major market, China, also registered double-digit growth of 11% at Changi Airport in May, with more than half a million passengers.

Total aircraft movements at Changi increased 3.2% to 31,200 in May 2017. These included additional Singapore Airlines services to Moscow and Sydney, and Ethiopian Airlines’ new direct services between Singapore and Addis Ababa.

More than 100 airlines now operate at Changi Airport, with an aircraft taking off or landing at the hub roughly once every 90 seconds.
