Lacol Hotel Khao Yai Thailand a Chatrium Collection Resort a superb place to connect with nature

Khao Yai, Thailand – October 10, 2023 – Lacol Hotel Khao Yai, a new luxury resort located in the popular tourist destination of Khao Yai National Park, Thailand, is now part of the Chatrium Collection, the luxury brand of the Chatrium Hospitality Group.

We drove from Bangkok and arrived at  lunch time after approx 160 km from home. We were warmly welcomed by the resort’s GM Thawintorn ‘Natt’ Kanungkid.
The resort features 125 spacious and well-appointed guest rooms, each with its own private balcony or terrace. The bright spacious rooms are well equipped with all the latest amenities, including flat-screen cable TVs, WiFi, mini-bars, and tea and coffee making facilities.

The resort also boasts a stunning outdoor pool, a fitness center, and a spa. Guests can enjoy a variety of dining options, including a buffet restaurant, a la carte restaurant, cocktail bar and the wonderful see-through Domes that enable you to capture the spectacular views in air conditioned comfort. They provide for a 360 degree view, in the privacy of your own totally enclosed Dome. With space for 2-4 people. Ideal for Honeymooners or anyone thinking of popping the question and proposing to their loved one. They are fun, private and you can stream your own music via the bluetooth speaker. There are just 4 Domes so reservations are essential. Absolutely recommend, the unique dining experience is memory making. We had afternoon tea here for two and the next day a candlelit dinner.

There is also a children’s club for younger guests.

Talking with GM Thawintorn he indicated that they are currently working on expanding the facilities at the resort, and since the Resort joined the Chatrium Collection just a month ago that business has increased.

He mentioned that 80 per cent of guests are Thai with 20 per cent other guests originating mainly from Singapore and India, and that one of his priorities is to develop a broader market mix. The majority are seminar groups or corporate team building groups. The GM is keen to promote sustainability in his resort. The resort already has its own organic garden from which much of the fresh produce is provided for the restaurant.

The resort also has its own outdoor cinema where guests can order drinks and popcorn, while enjoying movies under the stars.

I asked Khun Thawntorn what was his greatest challenges as GM and not surprisingly, that since Covid, the labour shortage is a challenge to overcome. However, he feels that there are opportunities to encourage more younger student entry level employees into the hospitality business and feels that this will be a priority, not only for Lacol but for many hotels in the north-east.

The resort’s large outdoor pool is the perfect place to relax and cool off on a hot day. Guests can also enjoy a variety of spa treatments at the Varin Wellness Center including their impressive Japanese Onsen (bath house).

The resort is situated close to the entrance to the Khao Yai  national park 5km away.

Khao Yai was established in 1962 as Thailand’s first national park. It is the third-largest national park in Thailand. Well worth a visit to see its famous wildlife including the Great Hornbills and Gibbons. The park is also home to elephants, tigers, and monkeys. Guests can enjoy hiking, biking, and birdwatching in the park.

Situated mainly in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Khao Yai extends into Prachinburi, Saraburi and Nakhon Nayok provinces. The park covers an area of 2,168 square kilometres including rain/evergreen forests and grasslands. At 1,351 metres high, Khao Rom is the highest mountain in the park. The park is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To access the resort we drive along leafy lanes, passing by some of Khao Yai’s most famous names, wine-yards and farms.
