Macau’s gaming industry continues to rebound strongly, following the significant declines experienced over the last two years.
According to the latest data from Macau’s Gaming Inspection & Coordination Bureau, the city’s casinos generated revenues worth MOP20.16 billion (US$2.5bn) in April 2017, up 16.3% compared to the same month last year.
This marks the ninth consecutive month of year-on-year growth, stretching back to August 2016. Prior to that, Macau’s gaming sector experienced a 26-month slump linked to the Chinese government’s crackdown on corruption and money laundering.
The former Portuguese colony remains by far the world’s largest gaming market.
