Disney Cruise Line has unveiled new designs for Mickey and Minnie Mouse for their visits to the line’s newest island destination, Disney Lookout Cay, at Lighthouse Point on Eleuthera.
The outfits, created by renowned Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett, will have a distinctive Bahamian flare inspired by the bright, colourful spirit of Junkanoo, the country’s signature festival filled with joyous music and spectacular parades.
Theodore’s designs are inspired by the beauty of his birthplace, reflecting the culture and vibrant colours of island life. Miss Universe contenders, celebrities, brides, cover models, and officials have all worn his designs.
When Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point opens in June 2024, Theodore’s work will take on a new life as a celebration of Bahamian culture seen through the eyes of the country’s artists. At Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Mickey and Minnie’s appearance will be part of a collection of bright works of art by local artists that tourists will see and enjoy throughout the new island resort.
“The beauty of Mickey and Minnie’s looks is that they are literally ‘Junkanoo Fun in the Sun,’” Theodore said. “When you talk about the print, pattern, colour, texture of Junkanoo, they’ve got that.”
Theodore will also design unique styles for Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip and Dale while they enjoy the natural beauty of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
