Norwegian Cruise Line vessel Norwegian Spirit docked at the Port of Currimao, Ilocos Norte in the Northern Philippines on Wednesday, 25th December.

The vessel brought in around 2,104 passengers, as well as an 887-member crew as it marked its first voyage to the northernmost gateway of the Philippine island of Luzon.

The Port of Currimao was the ship’s first destination in the Philippines after departing from Taipei on Sunday, 22nd December.

A traditional welcome

The passengers and crew were welcomed by cultural dancers of Currimao who gave them an entertainment number at the port prior to a simple welcome ceremony from representatives of the Philippine Ports Authority, Department of Tourism, as well as local government authorities.

The guests visited a number of heritage sites in the Ilocos Region, particularly in the cities of Vigan, Laoag, Paoay, and Badoc.

According to the DOT, the arrival of cruise ships in various parts of the country this year signals vibrant cruise tourism in the country that could bring lasting benefits to both the local and national economies.

As 2024 ends, the DOT remains confident that it will meet its target of 109 calls in 46 destinations nationwide along with other confirmed schedules extending to 2027.
