A new flight route from London to Luleå in Northern Sweden has been announced, with the first flight due to take off in December 2020 – perfectly timed for a pre-Christmas Arctic adventure. The direct route has been a priority for Luleå Airport and the Swedish Lapland Visitors Board who have entrusted Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) to deliver the new direct route into Lapland.

Mark Hayward, co-founder of Visit Lapland, said: “This is fantastic news for those travelling who will now be able to enjoy even more time on the ground to enjoy and experience all of the Northern Lights, dog sledding, culture and the landscapes this spectacular region of Northern Europe has to offer.”

The twice-weekly flights from London’s Stansted airport will operate on Mondays and Fridays starting 18 December 2020 through to 15 March 2021 will allow visitors to not only save on travel time but also are predicted to make the journey 18%-20% more carbon efficient. This combined with the fact that Luleå Airport was one of the first net zero airports in Europe for carbon emissions – helps reduce the impact of travel to the region.
