New fast ferry launches between Singapore and Indonesia

A new fast ferry has launched on routes connecting Singapore with Indonesia.

The Majestic Dream, which is operated by Majestic Fast Ferry, set off on its maiden voyage from Singapore’s HarbourFront terminal today (8 June 2017).

The 11th vessel in Majestic Fast Ferry’s fleet will now ply the company’s existing routes between Singapore and the Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan. Specifically, it will run between the HarbourFront and Tanah Merah ferry terminals in Singapore, the Batam Center and Sekupang terminals in Batam, and Tanjung Pinang in Bintan.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new vessel

The Majestic Dream can accommodate 317 passengers, including eight in business class.

“We are happy to launch Majestic Dream, our latest ferry serving passengers travelling between Singapore and the Riau Islands. The new ferry will be able to accommodate one-and-half times more passengers and provide them with a more comfortable experience onboard,” said Max Tan, director of Majestic Fast Ferry.

“It is also more environmentally friendly as the ferry’s direct injection diesel engines are designed to reduce fuel consumption. We plan to launch three more of these ships in due course.”

This fuel-efficient ferry continues the process of making cross-Malacca Strait travel more environmentally-friendly; in March this year it was announced that Tanah Merah will become Singapore’s first solar-powered ferry terminal.
