In the last few years, San Luis Obispo County, California (SLO CAL) has seen the opening of many new boutique properties, adding to the region’s varied accommodation options spanning historic hotels, beachfront resorts, trendy motels and cosy B&Bs.

In 2019, SLO CAL welcomed The Piccolo Hotel in downtown Paso Robles, in addition to Hotel San Luis Obispo in the bustling town of San Luis Obispo and Vespera on Ocean on Pismo Beach. 2020 saw the opening of Hotel Cerro in downtown San Luis Obispo, as well as the remodelling of San Luis Creek Lodge and White Water Cambria by designer Nina Freudenberger. As we look ahead to the New Year, there are a few more exciting developments across this Central Coast region, with three new Nomada Hotel Group properties set to open in 2023.

2022

Pacific Motel, Cayucos (September 2022)

Opened on 19 September in San Luis Obispo County, one of Cayucos’ first motels has reopened under a new name following a major transformation. Pacific Motel features historic bungalows that have been expanded into a 20-room, beach-style, boutique motel, located moments from the beach. The charming coastal town of Cayucos is home to a historic pier, with boutiques, trendy shops, dining hot spots and eclectic antique stores and is situated in an ideal position right off Highway 1.

2023

Farmhouse, Downtown Paso Robles (January 2023)

Located in the heart of Paso Robles – the third largest wine region in California – Farmhouse embodies a unique bed and breakfast style hotel with a compound of 26 separate cottages all within walking distance to downtown. Similar in spirit to the portfolio’s existing Hotel Ynez, the renovated property provides a small-town retreat with thoughtfully designed amenities including full breakfast, lobby market, and stocked minibars.

River Lodge, Paso Robles (May 2023)

River Lodge presents a wine country escape complete with 27 accommodations. Following a full motel overhaul, the transformed property provides a large central pool, outdoor gardens, lobby market, indoor/outdoor bar, and full-service restaurant serving three meals daily. Located at the base of the Paso Robles wine trail, guests will have e-bikes for immediate access to downtown and the area’s surrounding wineries.

Pozo, Santa Margarita Lake (August 2023)

Situated near Santa Margarita Lake, Pozo provides a historic “encampo” destination with 30 total accommodations including airstreams, upscale tents, and RV hookups for sprinter vans, all located adjacent to the iconic Pozo Saloon. Originally established in 1858, the historic Saloon was the focal point for musical celebrations and community gatherings. The venue has hosted an array of talent ranging from Willie Nelson to Kendrick Lamar and future events will be forthcoming. Among its variety of unique amenities, the property also boasts a distillery, central pool and outdoor soaking tubs, and full-service restaurant neighbouring the location’s lake, hiking, and horseback riding trails.
