NSW initiatives will play major role but recovery will take time

The NSW Government’s ongoing support of the Tourism and Events sector, including this week’s announcement of AUD530 million recovery package, will play a major role in the hospitality sector getting back on its feet but return to full health will take time.

With rolling announcements on international travel returning to normal, Australia’s hotels and accommodation providers are ramping up to welcome guests once again but there are challenges ahead and ongoing support from Federal and State Governments for the sector nationwide will be key.

Peak industry body, the Accommodation Association, is looking forward to receiving more details on the practicalities so that the industry can start preparing accordingly.

Accommodation Association CEO Richard Munro says, “On behalf of New South Wales’ hotels, motels and accommodation providers, we thank the NSW Government for its strategic and decisive action in investing more than $530 Million in bringing back tourists and supercharging the businesses at the heart of our all-important tourism sector.”

“This provides a massive boost to consumer and corporate confidence in committing to bookings and, hopefully, the resumption of international travel for all fully vaccinated travellers without the need to quarantine is not too far off.”

“There is a long ramp to recovery for hotels and accommodation. Our sector has lost a lot of people and skills. We look forward to that changing as international students and workers and skilled visa holders are allowed to once again come into the country.”

“The Accommodation Association continues to work closely with the NSW Government to identify, recommend and support those mechanism for consumers and accommodation providers which will bring our sector back to life as quickly and as safely as possible.”
