Philippine Coast Guard reports 140,000 maritime passengers beat Holy Week rush
The total covers all marine ports throughout the country on the last day before the Easter Triduum
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reports that more than 140,000 maritime passengers made their way through ports throughout the Philippines as of Wednesday, 16th April.
Yesterday alone, 77,782 outbound passengers and 68,890 inbound passengers have gone through port authorities for the Holy Week exodus.
According to the PCG’s situation report: “4,748 deployed frontline personnel in 16 PCG Districts have inspected 647 vessels and 1,113 motorboats.”
Heightened alert in full effect
As of Monday, 13th April, PCG districts, stations, and sub-stations were placed on heightened alert to manage the expected influx of port passengers during the Holy Week.
They will remain so until Easter Sunday, 20th April, when travellers make their way back.
Based on actual seaport passenger traffic from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the number of seafaring passengers throughout the country hit an average of over 200,000 per day since Saturday, 12th April.
There were 234,268 passengers on Tuesday, 194,922 on Monday, 217,389 on Sunday, and 211,221 passengers on Saturday.
