Q&A with Ian Scott from AMG

Jill Sayles

- August 23, 2017

Ian Scott is group managing director at representation and marketing agency AMG (Advantage Management Group Ltd).

Ian Scott

He was previously UK&Ireland Director at Dubai Tourism. AMG looks after the representation, PR and marketing for destinations, resorts and hotel groups including; Tobago, Nassau Paradise Island, Bahamas, Jewel Resorts in Jamaica, Dubai Parks & Resorts, Calabash Cove in St Lucia, as well as Temptation Resort Cancun.

1. You’ve been at AMG for a year now. How are you enjoying agency life and how would you describe your role?

Yes – I’m loving agency life. It’s very varied as no two days are the same. I could be writing a marketing strategy one day and then on a travel agent’s fam trip the next, but the variety is exciting. As group managing director, its vital for me to fully understand all our clients’ products, so I’ve recently returned from an agent fam trip to Tobago. It was my first trip there and the insights I gained were invaluable. Seeing a place makes a remarkable difference.

2. What kinds of services do you offer your clients?

We offer our clients the full range of sales, marketing, representation and PR services, all tailor-made for each one to meet their individual unique briefs. Here at AMG, myself and the team really take time to listen to our clients, strategically analyse, then finely hone our services to their specific needs and this is what really sets us apart. We are a mid sized agency so everyone has to be very hands on.

3. Would you say AMG has expertise in a particular part of the world?

Our current client base mainly focuses on the Caribbean, Middle East, North America and Mexico, however we have a vibrant team and we are certainly not limited to these areas of the world in terms of destinations and resorts that we work with. Given my personal background, further growth in the Middle East is obvious, but our expansion plans are quite bold.

4. What kind of opportunities do you offer travel agents?

All of our clients are UK travel trade facing, therefore our relationships with travel agents are really important to us. With this in mind, we’ve recently redesigned and fully updated our dedicated travel agent page on our website in order to provide all the latest factsheets, travel guides and details of agent training events and incentives for all of our clients http://www.amgrepresentation.com/agents

5. How are you looking further to engage with travel agents going forward?

On a client by client basis we have a huge amount of contact with agents, both face to face but also through My Booking Rewards, which is an exceptional tool for agent engagement. As our client mix grows, we are also looking at running or attending roadshows and other agent friendly events as AMG, the first of which will actually be in Germany. So with this in mind, over the next few months we will certainly be looking at exactly what more we can do to engage with the travel agent community and how we can work with them even more closely to the benefit of our clients.

6. How should a travel organisation looking for marketing, representation or PR services you offer get in touch?

They can email me at Ian@amgltd.biz and I’d be happy to talk to them regarding how we may be able to help, or of course they can take a look at our website: http://www.amgrepresentation.com/
