Kristin Mariano

- May 5, 2023

As the coronation of King Charles III approaches, it’s time to indulge in a little royal decadence for yourself. Despite being known for their love of staycations, even the royal family crave a break from the UK weather from time to time!

From exotic wildlife destinations to stunning beaches, the royals have holidayed in some of the world’s most breathtaking locations. Below are Booking.com’s top picks to add a royal touch to your next getaway.

As an added bonus, take advantage of Booking.com’s Getaway Deals which provide at least 15% off on participating 2023 accommodation across the globe until 28 September, offering complete flexibility to travel now or in the future.

Klosters, Switzerland

Klosters is known for its serene atmosphere and discreet luxury. A long-time favourite of King Charles, who has been skiing here for over four decades, it even has two chairlifts named after him. The stunning resort is where Prince William and Prince Harry first learned to ski as children.

Where to stay: Stay at Chalet Piz Buin, a sustainable accommodation located in Klosters, offering family apartments with fully equipped kitchenettes and private bathrooms. You’ll be in the heart of the action, with a wide range of activities on your doorstep, and an excellent location for skiing.

What to do:  Klosters is a renowned destination for skiing, golf, and hiking, so whether visiting in summer or winter, there should be an activity to suit everyone! If the outdoor pursuits sound too energetic for you, then either kick back, relax and enjoy the picturesque views of this pretty village over lunch or rent a car from nearby Davos and take a scenic road trip through the rugged mountains.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Fancy somewhere a bit hotter? If you’re a fan of the royals, why not visit the island of Mustique, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children holidayed in 2019, and where Princess Margaret once owned a home.

Where to stay: Expect to be treated like royalty at The Sweet RetreatLocated in Lower Bay, the property offers a restaurant with sea views. All rooms have private balconies and sea views. The hotel also features a sun terrace and a shared lounge, for the ultimate relaxing break.

What to do: Relax on the beautiful Bequia beach, hike to the top of the hill for stunning sunset panoramas, kayak, snorkel, or island hop.

Corfu, Greece

Walk in the footsteps of Charles and Camilla, who have spent several summers holidaying in Corfu – being spotted both in a villa on the mainland, and on a superyacht sailing around the island. The island is also where Charles’s father, Prince Philip, was born in 1921.

Where to stay: Gioiello di Corfu apartment is in the heart of Corfu Town, offering city views and situated close to many popular sights. The air-conditioned one-bedroom apartment has a living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and private bathroom.

What to do: Corfu is an ideal destination for those looking for some summer sunshine, a taste of luxury and history. If you’re looking to explore the Grecian islands, book the Paxos and Antipaxos Boat Tour from Corfu and explore the islands off shore.

The Scottish Highlands

King Charles loves spending time here. So much so, that he has several residences and holiday homes here where he loves to spend his summers in the Scottish Highlands.

Where to stay:  The Auld Kirk, located in the heart of Royal Deeside, is a tastefully converted former church with its original features still intact. The B&B serves up a daily cooked breakfast made from local ingredients, with the chef having won numerous awards. The stylish and contemporary bedrooms are comfortable and well-equipped.

What to do: The hotel is situated less than 8 miles away from the Royal residence of Balmoral castle, and Dufftown, part of the famous whisky trail, is just over an hour’s drive away, making it a great destination for both history and whisky enthusiasts. To make the most of your visit, why not book an Inverness and Highlands Tour to see some of the attractions in the area?

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Members of the British royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II, Princes Philip, Harry, and – prior to becoming King – Charles, have all holidayed at Half Moon in Jamaica.

Where to stay: Located a fifteen-minute walk from Montego Bay, Half Moon is a 400-acre property with a two-mile private beach on the Caribbean Sea. It boasts three restaurants and 5 bars, an 18-hole golf course, an impressive 68,000-square foot spa, and various sports facilities, including basketball, volleyball, squash, tennis, an equestrian centre, and a fitness centre. Guests can enjoy alfresco dining at the Seagrape Terrace and drinks from the Hibiscus swim-up pool bar.

What to do: For the adventure seeker, book the Martha Brae Excursion, a charming river famous for bamboo rafting. From Trelawny Parish, the vehicle will take you to the enchanting river. Here, you’ll have a chance to admire the emerald waters surrounded by lush jungles. You can even choose to sail along the river on a nine-metre-long bamboo raft supervised by a licensed dispatcher.
