Sarawak unveils waste management programme

Sarawak Tourism Board is pioneering a Waste Management Programme with local hotels as part of the board’s initiative to pursue responsible tourism initiatives. The programme, launched by YB Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the minister of tourism, arts and culture of Sarawak, is a long term joint collaboration project with WormingUp, a local NGO, that raises awareness on proper food waste management and methods to reduce disposal at landfill sites.

Six local hotel partners comprising Hilton Hotel, Riverside Majestic, Merdeka Palace, Grand Dormani Rajah Court Hotel, Kuching Park and UCSI Hotel have joined the campaign.

This ongoing programme is expected to be expanded to cover the whole of Sarawak region within the next three years and will ultimately include restaurants, shopping malls and schools.
