According to the latest results from ABTA’s Travel Confidence Index, the nation is feeling more confident about travelling overseas now than it was at the same time last year.

A new joint-report from ABTA and UKinbound outlines the value of international travel to the UK economy in terms of supporting jobs, economic contributions and taxes paid to HM Treasury. 

Restrictions have become the number one reason not to fly overseas, but the recent announcement makes more travellers book an overseas holiday this summer.

ABTA has announced that it believes the travel industry has had no opportunity to recover since the start of the pandemic, as new figures reveal that despite the opening of travel corridors – 9 in 10 (91%) holidays in July and August were changed or cancelled due to restrictions.

Driven by this year’s theme, ‘Rebuilding Confidence in Travel’, the full agenda has also been released, with expert speakers tackling major topics facing the industry including Brexit; how the industry can embrace sustainability as it reopens; and how businesses can improve equality, diversity and inclusion within their organisations.

The UK government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been a significant help for businesses in the travel industry, with nine in ten businesses taking part in the scheme to support staff.
