The Strand Cruise has announced details of a new voyage along the Irrawaddy (or Ayeyarwady) River between Mandalay and Yangon.
The new itinerary will cover 959km over 11 days, leaving Mandalay on 28 April 2017 and travelling downstream via Ava. Alternatively, shorter sectors of the voyage can be booked either between Mandalay and Bagan or Bagan and Yangon.
Previously, The Strand only offered three- and four-night cruises between Bagan and Mandalay.
Highlights of the latest itinerary include visits to Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, the forts of Gwechaung, the teak monastery of Yoke Sone-Kyaung in Sale, Mingun, one of the country’s former capitals, and the U-Bein Bridge near Amarapura, which is believed to be the oldest and longest teak bridge in the world.
Passengers will be able to combine their cruise with a stay at The Strand Yangon, the classic hotel that reopened in November 2016 after a six-month refurbishment.
