Tourism Malaysia lets travellers get creative and crafty whilst on holiday

Tourism Malaysia recently entered a collaboration with national crafts authority Kraftangan Malaysia and other agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) to inject a new perspective in promoting domestic tourism through the integration of craft, art, culture and local heritage.

This year’s Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia (KCCM) held from 25 to 27 October at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex focussed on the theme Crafting Holidays, encouraging local travellers to get into the spirit of traditional arts and crafts in different parts of the country.

Aside from a series of demonstrations and booths featuring traditionally crafted products and delicacies, the Carnival also offered over 200 travel packages discounted between 15 and 50 percent each.

The event also featured the launch of Tourism Malaysia’s Craft Complex Package. This tourism product includes guided group tours and interactive craft activities at four craft complexes, namely Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex, Langkawi Craft Complex, Johor Craft Complex, and Melaka Craft Complex.

All of the local craft centres have their own attractions including components such as the Craft Sales Center, the Heritage Craft Museum and Gallery, the Craft Village, the Painter’s Village, the Craft Ethno Park, and the Kelulut Honey Park.

In addition, visitors can also witness or participate in demonstrations and interactive craft activities such as rattan weaving, batik craft, ceramics, copper tooling, and kompang making.
