UK’s Eden Project expands into Asia Pacific

The company that operates the Eden Project, an environmental visitor attraction in the UK, is planning to bring the concept to the Asia Pacific region.

The Times newspaper reported this week that a series of new “biomes” are being planning in China, Australia and New Zealand.

Three new projects have been earmarked for China alone, the first of which is expected to open this year in Qingdao, the port city in Shandong province. A second is reportedly being developed in Yan’an Shaanxi province.

Hobart has been selected as the destination for Australia’s first Eden Project, while Christchurch is being considered in New Zealand.

Located in Cornwall, the original Eden Project features a series of temperature-controlled domes housing a variety of plant species from various regions of the world, including rainforest and Mediterranean zones.
