据一份最新报道称，中国政府将在2025年前新建136座机场。
根据新发布的《全国民用运输机场布局规划》显示，到2020年计划使中国的运输机场数量达到260个左右；到2025年，在现有（含在建）机场基础上，新增布局机场136个，全国民用运输机场规划布局370个（规划建成约320个）。
根据全国机场生产公报显示，截止2016年底，中国投入运营的运输机场总数是216个，也就是说，在接下来不到10年的时间里，还有超过100个新机场投入使用。据悉，将特别重点增加中西部地区机场的数量。
2015年，中国的机场总共接待了9.1亿人次旅客，这一数字预计将在2020年增加到15亿，并在2025年增加到22亿。
