Hyatt trials sleeping fans at US hotel

Hyatt has teamed up with Adaptive Sound Technologies for a new solution designed to improve its guests’ sleep quality. The Hyatt Place Nashville Downtown is trialling the use of “LectroFans” in more than 200 of its rooms. The LectroFan is a machine that creates 10 white noises and 10 fan sounds designed to shut out all external noise and improve the guest’s quality of sleep.

Emirates creates blankets from recycled plastic bottles

Emirates has introduced new sustainable blankets made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. The blankets, which are now available in economy class on long-haul Emirates flights, are made using patented ecoThread technology. Each blanket is created using 28 recycled plastic bottles, which are reduced to plastic chips and then turned into yarn, creating a polar fleece material.

Maldives resort adopts RFID technology

Kandima Maldives is harnessing RFID technology in an effort to make improve guest service. Every guest will be given an RFID wristband, which allows them to roam across the island without needing to worry about a key or wallet. Instead they can scan their wristband access at any F&B outlet or the resort’s 24-hour vending machines, or even at their room in place of a room key.

New app unveils history of Empire State Building

The Empire State Building (ESB) Observatory, one of New York’s most popular visitor attractions, has launched a new “Experience App” which provides visitors with additional information on the building’s history. The free app covers four specific areas: sustainability, the history and construction of the building, and the two observatories. The app is available in nine languages.
