Nickelodeon to open major new family tourist attraction in the Philippines in 2020 – Part of an “underwater” resort complex

The children’s TV Nickelodeon brand has partnered with Coral World Park Undersea Resorts to develop a new Nickelodeon resort and theme park in Coron, on the island of Palawan. It will form part of Coral World Park (CWP), which is an undersea-themed development covering 400 hectares across several tropical islands. At 100 hectares, the Nickelodeon complex, which will feature both a resort and theme park, will cover one quarter of the development.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Coral World Park to open the world’s first undersea attraction and Nickelodeon’s first resort in Southeast Asia, as we continue to expand on our theme-based attractions in Asia and across the world,” said Gerald Raines, senior vice president of global recreation for Viacom International Media Networks, which owns the Nickelodeon brand. “This is yet another important step in boosting the Nickelodeon entertainment experience as we continue to give our fans, kids and their families, new ways to interact with the brand and the iconic characters they love.”

The Nickelodeon complex, 70 percent of which will be the resort, the other 30 percent the theme park, will be modeled around the company’s cartoon characters, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dora the Explorer. These brands will also extend to some of CWP’s underwater restaurants and lounges, which will be located about six meters under the surface of the sea. The overall CWP complex is spread across a cluster of 16 tropical islands.

This announcement continues Nickelodeon’s expansion strategy in Asia; early last year the company’s first Asian theme park opened at the Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia.
