- February 8, 2023

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C., has recently  announced the appointment of Radu Cernia as General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka.

Cernia brings a wealth of international experience to the luxury hotel, which is slated to open in the  prefectural capital of Fukuoka on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan in late spring of this year. Part of the Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City complex, The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka is the first luxury hotel by Marriott International to open on the island and will be central to the Kyushu region’s ongoing  development as a global business hub.

Cernia’s long career in hospitality has taken him from his Romanian roots to luxury properties in the  United Arab Emirates, the United States, and across Asia. Cernia now brings his 25 years of international experience in luxury hotel operations and new openings to Fukuoka, one of Japan’s fastest growing cities and a lively waterfront capital favoured for its mild climate, thriving startup scene, and convenient public transport. Of his appointment as general manager of Marriott International’s first luxury hotel in the Kyushu region, Cernia commented, “The Ritz-Carlton vision is to inspire life’s most meaningful journeys. I could not be more excited to bring that commitment to this vibrant destination, all the more so at a time when so many people around the world are eager to begin travelling freely again. Whether your visit to Kyushu and Fukuoka is for leisure or business, the Ritz-Carlton legacy of gracious hospitality and genuine care will be there to welcome you.”

The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka will be situated on the top floors of the 111-metre glass tower of Fukuoka  Daimyo Garden City, an 11,900-square-metre complex that will also offer upscale office and  residential space, an event hall, shops, and facilities for startup support once it opens fully to the  public in the coming months after spring 2023. Part of the site is a vast 3,000-square-metre park for  outdoor events, which soft-launched ahead of these other facilities on January 20. Located at the west  edge of Fukuoka’s riverside Tenjin district, a tech hub popular for evening strolls, street music, and  local cuisine, the luxury hotel will enable fast and easy access to the bullet-train-serviced Hakata  Station, Fukuoka Airport, and Hakata Port, all within fifteen minutes by car or public transport.
