En Root, the South London’s neighbourhood favourite, plant-based pioneers have opened up a new pop-up restaurant at the iconic Railway Tavern pub in Tulse Hill, marking South London’s first plant-based pub. ‘The Railway Tavern Takeover’ will be En Root’s fourth restaurant in South London and follows En Root’s third restaurant opening at The Ritzy cinema in Brixton in November last year. The pop-up kitchen will follow in the footsteps of its popular Clapham, Brixton and Peckham siblings, serving up healthy, hearty Indian-inspired meals, designed to energise, uplift and nourish the communities of South London.

Railway Tavern regulars, En Root lovers, and newcomers alike will now be able to enjoy En Root’s take on traditional pub favourites, including some ‘pub grub’ specials. A selection of plant-based small bites on the menu will include Tandoori Wings – Oyster Mushrooms battered in Tandoori Chickpea Batter served with Rajanaisse and a squeeze of lemon, Loaded Fries topped with a Jerk Plantain Mushroom Mix and an Onion and Tomato Salsa, as well as PoppaNachos, where India meets Mexico with a poppadom base snack topped with Dhal, Pickled Cabbage, Avocado, Raita and Spice Krispies.

For those looking to indulge further, The Crispy Oyster Mushroom Burger served with ‘Rajannaise,’ Mango Chutney, and Loaded Fries tossed in a spicy tomato sauce is set to be a household favourite at the Railway Tavern. There is also the Railway Wrap; an ode to the host venue and other ‘more naughty’ additions to the menu.

On Sunday’s, the En Root team will be cooking up a selection of roasts for those wanting their Sunday roast fix including a Jerk Butternut Wellington or a Lentil Roast served with Cauli ‘Cheese’, Braised Red Cabbage, Masala Roasties, Sweet Carrots, Sage Stuffing and Onion Gravy.

Alongside the usual tipples offered at the Railway Tavern, fresh Coconuts will now be available for those looking for a refreshing drink. A selection of mouth-watering sweet treats are also on the menu, including a ‘Mango Lassi Cheesecake’ and a ‘Beetroot Blueberry Cacao Brownie’ to round off the ultimate pub experience.
