- June 23, 2024

In a symphony of aviation prowess and economic foresight, Air New Zealand is poised to elevate the Tokyo travel experience. Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran has unveiled plans to add 30,000 seats to the airline’s Tokyo route, spanning the months from November to March.

The Boeing 777-300ER Takes Centre Stage

The driving force behind this expansion? Air New Zealand’s larger Boeing 777-300ER aircraft is now gracing the skies more frequently en route to Japan. With a total of 342 seats, including 44 in business class and 54 in premium economy, the 777-300ER promises a premium experience for travellers. Compared to the smaller 787-9 Dreamliner, it offers more capacity and a wider array of options for booking premium cabins.

Japan: A Vital Visitor Market

Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran emphasises Japan’s strategic importance. As an incredibly vital visitor market for New Zealand’s tourism industry, Japan’s demand fuels this capacity boost. The surge in inbound travel during the busiest season is a testament to the enduring allure of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Refreshed Aircraft and Premium Comfort

Passengers may soon experience Air New Zealand’s newly refreshed aircraft. Imagine new seat covers, updated soft products like pillows and blankets, and a sense of rejuvenation as you settle into your premium cabin. The 777’s arrival in Tokyo heralds a new era of comfort and style.

Asia’s Capacity Surge

Singapore, Tokyo, and Taipei: A Triumvirate of Growth

The Tokyo increase is part of a broader expansion across key Asian destinations. Between November 2024 and March 2025, Air New Zealand will add over 55,000 seats to its flights connecting Singapore, Tokyo, and Taipei. Premium cabins remain a favourite among travellers, and this surge in capacity ensures more opportunities to book with extra space and comfort.

As the Auckland-based flag carrier charts its course, passengers can anticipate seamless journeys, refreshed cabins, and a warm Kiwi welcome. Japan beckons and Air New Zealand answers the call with open wings.
