Britain to propose asylum ban on English Channel migrants

The United Kingdom’s Minister, Suella Braverman, has said that they will introduce a new plan which would prohibit the entry of migrants who cross the English Channel from claiming asylum. Such an announcement, according to Reuters, was confirmed by a government source, while she said that she would use her speech at the Conservative Party’s annual conference in order to deport those who come to Britain in an unlawful way.

In this regard, Braverman said that she would use her speech at the governing Conservative Party’s annual conference to commit to looking at new legislative powers for the government that could deport those who entered the UK illegally.

“It’s right that we extend the hand of friendship to those in genuine need. Parts of the system aren’t delivering. We need to end the abuse of the rules and cut down on those numbers that aren’t meeting the needs of our economy, Braverman pointed out in this regard. The Ministry of Defense reported that a total of 499 people crossed the English Channel on Thursday in ten boats, while the total number of Channel crossings edged close to 33,000 this year, at a total of 32,807.

According to the figures provided by the PA Agency, in September, a total of 7,767 people crossed the English Channel illegally. A large number of persons attempt to cross the English Channel in an unlawful way. About 700 migrants, as well as asylum seekers, crossed the English Channel in France trying to reach Britain in April, marking a new record for this year.

The government of the United Kingdom considered the increase in the number of crossings at the Channel dangerous and unacceptable, while the same said that “people should always claim asylum in the first safe country they reach, rather than risk their lives and line the pockets of ruthless criminal gangs in order to cross the Channel.
