British and Irish campers have plenty of holiday plans for 2023. This is apparent from a major survey by the camping specialist ACSI among 12,000 campers throughout all of Europe. The 1,600 British and Irish campers who participated in the survey are already prepared to set out in the spring – in their own country but also increasingly abroad again.
Popular destinations are the United Kingdom and France in particular. ‘Although a holiday in your own country remains popular, we see the appeal of going abroad increasing once again,’ explains ACSI CEO Ramon van Reine. ‘This was evident last year already and will be given even more emphasis in 2023.’ Germany, Italy and Belgium are increasingly in popularity as a destination among British and Irish campers.
Longer holidays
The increasing popularity of a holiday abroad goes hand-in-hand with a longer holiday. How long and how often people go depends on the composition of the group. Campers who go camping with (grand)children plan to go on holiday in 2023 an average of four times and for a total of 46 days. If there are no (grand)children going along on holiday, plans are for an average of five holidays, spread over 75 days. In the case of the latter, the duration of the holiday is increasing considerably with respect to 2021 and 2022.
