The Cook Islands experienced a sharp rise in tourism arrivals in 2016.

According to the country’s full-year tourism statistics released this week, the South Pacific nation welcomed 146,473 visitors last year, up 17.1% compared to 2015 and a new record.

The growth was spread across all several source markets, with Japan recording the highest increase of 76%. The Cook Islands’ largest market, New Zealand, contributed 18% more visitors, while traffic from Australia jumped 10%, China 43% and North America 16%.

In fact the country has just registered its 13th consecutive month of record visitor arrivals since December 2015.
