Croatia gains momentum as an increasing number of tourists chose to take advantage of the freedom of movement and border openings throughout the course of June. 

In June, Croatia marked 892 thousand arrivals and 4.79 million overnights, which albeit only a third of last year’s numbers for the same period, is a fantastic result as the influx of tourists continues to rise as entering July, marking an upward trend both in terms of arrivals and overnights.

The largest number of arrivals has been from the markets of Germany, Slovenia, Austria and Czech Republic, with domestic tourists also accounting for a large number of overnights. Germany accounted for 32% of overnights in June, Slovenia 29%, domestic tourists 20%, Austria 10% and Czech Republic 9%. The most popular destinations by number of overnights include Rovinj, Vir, Medulin, Mali Lošinj and Umag.

Currently 60% of hotels are operational, with 698 of a total of 1173 open, with 72% of camps open, currently 361 camps of 503, with more anticipated to open as demand increases. Private accommodation options are more flexible and a large number of private homes and apartments continue to open as bookings rise.

Health and safety continue to be a high priority, with continued monitoring of the epidemiological situation in the country on a daily basis and regularly updated recommendations being issued to maintain minimal risk to both domestic residents and visitors to the country. Croatia is still amongst the safest destinations to visit in Europe, falling within a handful of European countries with the least number of cases per million inhabitants, while being cited as one of the safest Mediterranean countries to visit. Through the end of June, there have been no reported cases of tourists infected with Covid-19, with all accommodation and tourist hospitality facilities abiding by the latest health and safety protocols.

UK travellers no longer need to present proof of accommodation booking at the border, but they do need to fill out the online form to announce their visit and to ensure seamless travel and border crossing.

Masks are mandatory on public transport and the recommended physical distance between people is 1.5m. Travellers are given further health & safety recommendations upon successfully completing the above mentioned online form.
