Hilton has announced the upcoming entry of its DoubleTree by Hilton brand in Damai Laut, Malaysia, through a conversion of the existing Swiss-Garden Beach Resort Damai Laut. Set to open in 2020, the 291-room DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort will be the first internationally-branded resort managed by Hilton in Damai Laut, offering views of the Strait of Malacca and Pangkor Island.

DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort will be located within 425 acres of lush greenery, featuring an 18-hole golf course with direct access to the beachfront. Strategically located along the southern reaches of Lumut, the resort will be situated near the only turtle sanctuary of the west coast.

“Damai Laut has huge potential”

“Damai Laut is one of the key gateways to the beautiful surrounding islands including Pangkor Island and Marina Island. As a coastal town with a rich historical heritage, Damai Laut has huge potential to be the next resort destination of choice for domestic travellers,” said Shawn McAteer, senior vice president and global head, DoubleTree by Hilton.

DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort will offer 291 guest rooms with a mix of garden and sea views and five dining outlets including an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant and a beach restaurant. Guests travelling for leisure can enjoy a mini water park and an 18-hole golf course located at the resort, which will also feature meetings and events facilities including a 1,860 square metre event space and an 885 square metre ballroom.

“Opening up to tourism”

“We recognise the immense tourism potential in Malaysia, which is one of our key growth markets here in South East Asia. Secondary and tertiary destinations within the country such as Damai Laut are opening up to tourism even more and we are keen to continue expanding our footprint and portfolio of brands across both gateway and secondary cities in the market by working with the right partners,” said Guy Phillips, senior vice president, Asia & Australasia, Hilton.
