Emirates has told China that it will “never compromise” on the issue of safety, following two recent incidents involving the airline’s flights.

Xinhua reports that in April, an Emirates plane was found to be flying at the wrong altitude in the skies above western China’s Xinjiang region. And then in May, one of the airline’s flights temporarily lost contact with air traffic control, also in Xinjiang.

These incidents led to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) fining the airline a total of CNY29,000 (approx. US$4,300), and Emirates has now issued a statement to reassure its Chinese partners.

“Safety is our number one priority at all times. Emirates fully complies with the CAAC’s requirements on all our flight operations to China,” an Emirates spokesperson was quoted saying. “Regarding the specific incidents on April 17 and May 18, Emirates will cooperate fully with the CAAC and complete all actions recommended by the authority.”

Emirates currently flies to five destinations in mainland China: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Yinchuan and Zhengzhou.
