For Bangkokians looking to escape the city for a day and stroll among scenic rice paddies, fragrant rose gardens, a destination cafe and shop and learn about everything from natural plant care to rice milling to how to feed a cute family of buffalo, Patom Organic Village sits just an hour outside of Bangkok.
With an emphasis on traceability, Patom Organic Village is about following the journey of raw materials from farm to product. Visitors can learn how they integrate traditional knowledge and local wisdom into their lifestyle brand, which spans the farm, cafe, delivered organic veggie box subscriptions and scattered Patom shops in the city.
When we visited recently, we were able to jump into an impromptu tie-dying workshop where we each dyed a small purse using traditional dies made from marigolds and other natural dyes.
Later, we learned about rice milling and sat down to make our own body products. Visitors can make massage oil, soap, body scrub, and more.
Nearby others were making flower garlands, clay figures and more.
All of the organic ingredients they use are either sourced from our farm or the nearby Sampran Model network of organic farmers. Guests can walk in the footsteps of crafters to understand the process of design and experience the organic Thai way of life.
The people behind Patom care deeply about the impact on the environment, this is on display through recycled and up-cycled waste within the village, and visitors can learn about the circular economy.
Those who want to learn more about the rice they grow – Hom Pathum Rice, Jasmine Rice, sticky rice, and rice variety 403 – can attend the RICE FARMING WORKSHOP and learn how to rotate our crops, plant rice organically without agricultural chemicals, chemical fertilizers, growth regulators, pesticides, or weed control chemicals. There is a lesson on preventing pests naturally when storing rice.
Those who love food and cooking, can join cooking workshops in a traditional Thai kitchen where the chefs teach how raw organic ingredients are made into traditional snacks, roasting your own herbal tea, scooping your own Khanom Krok, or grilling Khanom Kluay.
Take a day off of city living and get back to nature at Patom Organic Village. Open everyday 10:00-16:0
